Italian Publishers win Eco della Stampa Case
A ruling from Italian regulator Agcom on 5th May has required MMO Eco della Stampa to remove the content of leading newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore from its services. This ruling comes after many years of legal battles with two leading Italian MMOs frustrating the publishers Promopress licensing initiative. Eco della Stampa is one of the two and the leading MMO in Italy.
The decision has confirmed the principle that newspapers articles cannot be used by MMOs without prior consent of publisher. The ruling means each article marked “reserved reproduction” - as most articles are in the Italian press - is now protected in law.
PDLN congratulates Il Sole, FIEG and Promopress and hopes the progressive MMOs who have supported Promopress for many years are encouraged by the ruling.
