Licensing And COVID-19

PDLN had a strong turnout for a webinar on the impact of the health crisis on press licensing in late April, with attendees from most continents. There was a universal concern for the impact on the press, with many magazines and regional newspapers unable to publish. Conversely interest in the impacts has seen boosted volumes in some markets, Germany for example, and use of online material and online services was up. Whether this is sustainable is an obvious concern. Some MMOs and clients had pushed for fee waivers or delayed payments, but most saw that the link between volume and fees catered for changes in usage. A number of members active in the education sector have launched initiatives and rights extensions to support online learning.
